JMU recital

On October 13, 2014 I get to spend the day at JMU with the wonderful studio of Ian Zook . The masterclass begins at 1:25pm and the recital is at 8pm.

The program features 3 mutations of Bach cello suite movements by the awesomely creative Vince Norman and a pair of works by very talented composer and hornist Brett Miller . There's of course a few standards as well. This is a fresh and fun program that I'm excited to share. Hope to see you there!

August 2nd Recital - new time

The start time for the Contributing Artist Recital, at the 45th International Horn Symposium in Memphis, has been moved to 10:00 AM, this Friday, August 2nd.  Hope to see you there!

International Horn Workshop 45

The International Horn Workshop 45 is coming up in about a week. It is always fun to see the latest gear and music in the exhibits, hear great players from around the globe, and meet up with old friends. This year I will be playing as an alumni with the University of Alabama horn ensemble and judging the quartet competition.

However, I'm most excited about premiering a work I commissioned from Vince Norman, formerly an arranger with The US Army Field Band and an all around awesome guy. I asked Vince to do some variants on the Sarabande from Bach's fifth cello suite. As requested it definitely features the low horn and even passes through a bit of swing and a pedal C before returning to the original cello part. To follow and contrast this I'm doing a brief "patriotic spectacular" by Brett Miller. America!  is a short romp through a handful of popular American tunes, exactly what one might expect from a hornist who frequently wears a military uniform.

If you are going to be at the IHS45 please come hear me on the Contributing Artist Recital on Friday, August 2nd at 3:30 10:00 am.
